Winner of the World Orchid Conference Trust Trophy which 'Honours the grower of the best species orchid' was Vandopsis gigantea 'Nagori-Yuki', an enormous plant over one and a half metres tall. It had six spikes with an average of eleven open flowers on each. It is a species rarely grown in Europe and comes from China through to Peninsular Malaysia. It was originally described by Lindley in 1833 as Vanda gigantea from a specimen found by Nathaniel Wallich in Burma and subsequently transferred to Vandopsis.
